October is Farm to School Month!

October is Farm to School month! We will celebrate Farm to School month by getting kids in the garden, getting their hands dirty, and harvesting and EATING our veggies at the end of the month! Watch the PTA Facebook/Twitter feed for news about when kids can try the things they grew!

Farm to school enriches the connection communities have with fresh, healthy food and local food producers by changing food purchasing and education practices at schools and preschools.  Our Douglas school garden is a great resource:

School gardens are an integral part of farm to school programs and offer a multitude of educational opportunities. They are wonderful instructional tools and engaging spaces in which to explore the entire curriculum. Whether they are container gardens or school farms, fruit trees or herb gardens, school gardens serve as hands-on, interdisciplinary classrooms for students of all ages.
